After graduating from university, joined a foreign-affiliated consulting company. After gaining experience in business and strategy consulting, launched an IT venture company. Has been working independently as a freelance consultant since 2009.
It was my first time working
as a PM on the client side,
but I was able to lead the project to success.
About five years ago, was introduced to Mr. Yokoyama, the president of Sevenzen, by a former colleague of a foreign-affiliated consulting firm where he used to work. When the project he had been working on for a long time settled down, he was asked by Sevenzen if he’d like to participate in a project to build an online ordering system for a pharmaceutical company.
S : “I joined from the start of the project kick-off preparations. Since the vendor had already been selected, I started by launching the project. I’d been involved in projects as a PMO before, but this was my first time being involved in a project as a PM on the client side. Since it was a waterfall project, I oversaw everything from requirements definition to design, development, testing, and operations. There were many twists and turns, but I am very happy that we were able to successfully complete the project within the planned period and budget.”
I want to expand the range of projects
that I can handle as a freelancer
You have been working independently as a freelance consultant since 2009 and have been involved in various consulting projects since then. What kind of things do you keep in mind when choosing a project while working as a freelancer?
S: “There are three criteria for choosing projects. The first is whether it is a long-term project. It’s not always possible to get a project offer with good timing, so I try to choose projects that last for at least one year as much as possible to reduce the risk of being without pay. The second is being paid accordingly. Money is also a very important point when working as a freelancer whose employment is not guaranteed. The third is whether new skills can be acquired or not. Freelance consultants can offer a lot of value to their clients by being able to handle a wide range of tasks. I am conscious of taking on challenges in fields in which I have no experience, in order to improve my responsiveness.”
There are many unique projects in Sevenzen
that you can’t find anywhere else,
and you can aim to advance
your career as a consultant.
You have experienced various projects throughout 13 years since becoming independent as a freelancer. What part of Sevenzen do you find most appealing?
S: “Agents with the same scale as Sevenzen tend to have opportunities that are provided by major consulting firms. However, Sevenzen often receives requests directly from business companies, so one of their characteristics is having many unique opportunities that other agents do not have. I feel that Sevenzen provides many opportunities that I would like to take in order to advance my own career. Also, it is incredibly helpful that they intervene as support when signing contracts with clients. Personally, I would like to continue working as a freelance consultant, and I would be very happy to keep working with Sevenzen in the future.”
